Interested in volunteering in your neighborhood in the event of an emergency? Become a member of the Eugene-Springfield Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Being part of CERT is a deeply rewarding experience. CERT members assist their neighbors when professional responders are not immediately available to help. They also may support other emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness in the community.
CERT training prepares volunteers for hazards that may impact their area, teaching participants basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. With the training learned in the classroom (online and in person) and during exercises, CERT members are ready to assist should a severe weather event or local emergency occur. Members may also assist at community events, by educating the public on emergency preparedness. Becoming a CERT member provides volunteers with a variety of opportunities to serve.
