River Road Transportation Safety Plan Presentation at Aug 3rd General Meeting

City of Eugene and Lane Transit District staff will be attending our August 3rd general meeting to introduce the River Road Multimodal Safety Plan to the neighborhood group. The River Road Multimodal Safety Plan builds on past planning efforts, including the River Road/Santa Clara Neighborhood Plan and Action Plan, to identify practical improvements that make the street safer and easier for people to get where they need to go. Instead of creating a new vision for River Road, this project will confirm community priorities already identified and focus on moving those improvements toward being built.

Community members have shared concerns about crossing the street safely, reaching destinations, accessing bus stops, traffic congestion, and traveling by bicycle. This project will explore improvements to make River Road safer and easier for everyone to use, no matter how they get around. The result of the project will be a set of practical design recommendations that improve safety, access, and connections while helping guide future investment for River Road.

Presenters:
Jody Trendler is a Senior Transportation Planner with the City of Eugene. In addition to the River Road and Highway 99 Multimodal Safety Plans, she works on sidewalk policy and long-range transportation planning.

Kerry Aszklar is a Transit Planner with Lane Transit District. She works on long-range plans and multimodal projects at LTD.

Our next community meeting is Monday, August 3rd 2026, at 7 pm. You can attend in person at the Annex, 1055 River Road, or online using Google Meet.

River Road and Highway 99 Transportation Priorities Surveys Now Open

Both River Road and Highway 99 are essential streets for life in Eugene, linking residents to schools, parks, businesses, bus service, and other destinations. Both streets have also faced serious transportation safety issues over the years.

The River Road and Highway 99 Multimodal Safety Plans will look at how to make these two Eugene streets safer, more reliable, and better connected for everyone.

A lot of conversation about River Road and Highway 99 has already occurred in Eugene, like with the River Road/Santa Clara Neighborhood Plan and the Bethel Area Neighborhood Vision.

Instead of starting the conversation fresh, the following surveys for each street seek to confirm previously identified priorities for both River Road and Highway 99.

Then, in fall 2026, the City will launch another survey looking at design options for River Road and Highway 99 that can actually be built to achieve community priorities.
