Neighbors in Action

Rosetta Park
From Jan:
We now have a plan for a neighborhood potluck, mix and mingle at Rosetta Park for Friday, May 29, starting at 6 in the afternoon.

This will be the first potluck in the park to our knowledge. Please bring a dish and join your neighbors!

Arrive early for some frisbee or other play.

At the potluck, we will touch on a really fun event - the Neighborhood Olympics. This will be a great time! Everyone can bring whatever outdoor activity to the Olympics they like - croquet, badminton, 3 legged race, frisbee, balloon toss, maybe some evening theater, anything fun and healthy that others can be involved in. We will choose a date for the Olympics- a really unique kick off to Rosetta Park.

Please let other neighbors know about the potluck and the Olympics.

Weeding - nearly all the trees in the park need some attention at this time. Its a really pretty weekend and a great time for some weeding. This is part of our agareement with the city, we weed, they dont use chemicals in the park. I plan to be out there for a couple hours this weekend. These will be easy weeds, growing in the mulch around the trees, no need for a schedule. Maybe bring a small trowel and pail to put the weeds in, where to put the weeds? either take them home of make a pile say under the chestnut tree near along the fence on the north side of the park near evergreen. I will take care of them from there.

RRCO forms Green Team

The River Road Community Organization now has its own eco sub committee - The River Road Green Team.

There is an increasing interest in reducing our individual, family and community environmental foot prints and that is what the Green Team is about.

Its also about making friends, building community here in River Road and service to the neighborhood.

The Green Team will facilitate connecting people in the neighborhood with similar interests, it will organize workshops and projects, and provide educational outreach to various neighborhood organizations like schools and churches.

Global trends relating to climate, energy, the environment and international relations all clearly point to the wisdom of living more within what planet earth can sustain. There is enormous potential to take care of more of our needs closer to home in ways that benefit ourselves, our families, our neighbors and the environment. And we can have a lot more fun closer to where we live!

Friday, October 3, 7 PM will be a Green Team social at Jan's house. We will have a veggie potluck, socialize and talk about what visions we have for the neighborhood. Please join us.

Cadojen Park Tree Planting:

Hello friends of "Cadojen Park". I’m excited to tell you that our tree planting will be on Saturday March 29th @ 10am! Cadojen Park is located behind the drive-thru Dari Mart on river road near the Howard stoplight. Turn on east Maynard or East Hatton, and head toward the river to Cadojen Park. I have been working with Loran Baldwin & Matt McRae from the city of Eugene, & have gotten the permission to plant 24 native trees ( instead of the original 10). We will be grubbing the grass away from the new tree sites, planting the new trees, watering them, & spreading wood chips around the base for their health & vitality. We are still looking for more people to help plant these trees, so please pass this email on to friends. Thanks!!
Also, we will be looking for helpers to put in a crushed rock path across Cadojen park ( from the end of east Maynard to connect to the bike path). We are hoping to pick a date around sat April 19th. This date is not confirmed yet, so I’ll be emailing you again when i know more.
Our tree planting date start at 10am, and will end when job is complete ( hopefully by 2pm), so please dress accordingly. I will try to have some simple snacks, water,& warm drinks available. We will try to rent a porta-potty also.
If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to email jen_doughome@yahoo.com. Thanks for all of your support. I'll look forward to seeing you on March 29th. Let's put some energy out there for a warm sunny day!! Smiles~~Jen
